Divine light [cancelled]
with Håkan Hardenberger en Miah Persson

With festive works by Beethoven, Händel, Bach and Telemann, the Swedish trumpeter Hardenberger returns to Amsterdam Sinfonietta after more than ten years.

The Swedish trumpeter Hakan Hardenberger and his compatriot soprano Miah Persson join Amsterdam Sinfonietta for a festive and varied Christmas programme based on Bernhard Krol’s Magnificat Variations for trumpet and string orchestra. Persson truly shines in Händel’s superb Eternal Source of Light Divine, accompanied by a lyrical trumpet and subdued harmonies. The text is a spiritual thanksgiving for the British queen Anne Stuart. Beethoven expresses his gratitude after his miraculous recovery from a grave illness in Heiliger Dankgesang, a work that assumes an almost sacred character through its use of a church mode and its chorale-like melody. In Finzi’s Salutation, the interweaving lines of the strings accompanying the melodic soprano recall Bach’s polyphony.
